my first AG weighed in on the bathroom scales at 94Kg or 206.8lb- alittle heavy (est 85Kg/187lb) i had a great time growing it.
but i have found that for all the seeds, although the shells are fully developed, the embryo inside did not develop- i have a useless pile of empty shells.
any ideas why this would have occured? a nutrient deficiency perhaps?

the pumpkin was not ripe yet.

I would say the same thing, the pumpkin was not fully developed and or matured. It needed more time on the vine growing and time to let the seeds inside the pumpkin mature.

Something like this just drives my literal mind nuts. For instance my 710 was lost in the middle of August with the seed development having to have stopped earlier by a week or more. Those wimpy seed hardly looked like seed. they were at 50% germination in October. It's amazing but they are still at 50% germination. So then we hear of a seed fully developed but dry so to speak. Sure makes interesting pondering anyway. And then there have been a couple of fruit totally devoid of seed such as one of the Checkon's a few years ago.

interesting. the fruit was late to set and was not fully ripened when i had to remove it, but i would still guess it odd that the shell is fully developed while the embryo inside is only afew millimetres in size. the thin papery membrane which is between the shell and embryo was also fully developed, hence my assumption that perhaps there was a nutrient lacking that was crutial only for embryo development. perhaps it is a defect of the plant- a genetic problem- this would explain why 100% of the seeds were empty- with any other cause i would still expect a certain percentage(even if very low) to be ok.
doesnt matter, i will buy some new seeds for next year and hopefully have no more trouble.

thanks

Same thing happened to our 1262 Emmons last season 20+ %lite and big mature looking hollow seeds? I believe it was due to genetics = tripple flat vine; and oscillation of moisture...

okay, one last theory for the day---the seed coats and everything about them are created in anticipation of the seed "germ" being installed at the last minute by Mother Nature. do you have a child and THEN create the child's
room for when Baby comes home? no.
same here. the seed coat is created and then the innards are
installed. just like anything else in life. i don't think there was any genetic problem or any vitamin deficiency.
the fruit just wasn't mature yet, and perhaps nothing could have been done about it.
if you are ever concerned about the PHYSICAL viability of a seed (how full is it?) you can shine a laser pointer through it...under a desk or slightly-darkened room good place for this....in this way you can determine where the seed's innards actually are...DO NOT shine the laser beam
anywhere even remotely in the direction of your eyes, y'all!!!!!!! zoanix, WANT SOME FULL SEEDS? email me! 'pal2
