here's the scoop guys and gals... i was just wondering when everyone culled. if you

A - start several seeds for each "spot", then evaluate them and only transplant the best one into the ground outside

B - start AND transplant more than one seed for each "spot," then cull the bad one(s) later after they're in the ground for a while

last year I did B...this year I think I might do A. hope everyone understands what i'm asking.

Brigitte - I'm a big fan of B or double planting.

This way I have two plants in the ground, establishing themselves at the same time.
If something goes wrong with the primary plant the second one is ready to take over.

In my opinion it takes considerably less time to "catch up" when you have a second one already in the ground.
Just don't wait to long to make the CUT.

Hmmm My take on this is several growers have gotten there personal best on that sickly little slow to grow runt..So planting more than one is a waste of a good seed..So send that 501 to my patch and I will save you the trouble of killing it..:)

I am side by side with two. By the time the vine shows one will be cut off not pulled. Pulling will distrub to many roots that will be overlapped by that time.

I think the best option is two plants planted as far apart as possible in the same patch so one can be culled later. The biggest threat I have noticed after a plant starts to vine is mutations. I planted 2 side by side last year, culled one early and the one that was left mutated when it began to vine. Leaving two plants in as long as possible gives you the greatest chance of having a great plant. Jim

that'd be a nice name though--Brigitte Rose...
i think Clinton spun around and basically did himself in
as soon as he said "but"! lol...never say "but" without
"nice" in front of it...lol....whoops....
in other news, i just plant ONE and hope it does well.
if i only have one of a seed, well, what can i do. yes, plant a different one as a backup. however i feel that's a waste of a seed, so i don't do it voluntarily.
i guess what i'm saying is, i plant and pray.
