I can't seem to find the picture now(it was on a patch tour last year) but someone else had been using boards to walk on in the patch to help avoid compacting the soil. What size wood/boards?? and do you move them or leave them for the season? I think mine was too small so didn't use it last year, would like to try again.

I use a couple deck boards connected with peices of 2x6 they are about 14 inches wide and as long as you need them. Steve

I got a second hand piece of 3/4" CDX plywood and ripped out twelve inch boards in various lengths. I leave them in the patch as long as they are not in the road of patch work.
I check under them for snails and slugs. They serve as a makeshift mulch.

We have been pulling/chain sawing down a huge 30 year old corral from out back of the barn. They are all rough cut 2x6x12 once we pound all the rusty nails out they make the finest walking planks for spacing between all the hoop houses! We set them at 10 feet and build the hoop huts between them with shorter walking planks between those, works great to keep you off the soil while tending to the babies.
