I have a water whizzer sprinkler head on 4 foot riser. If i raise it to 7 feet or so ,will the water cover a larger area of the patch?

Yes! You may begin to have wobble or vibration forces on a seven foot stand. Give and take jock strap engineering comes into play in these matters. Good luck. Show us your successes in pictures if you can.

I don't think you'll gain much by making the riser longer, except for wind drift. Increasing water pressure may give you more coverage. If you use pvc pipe and fittings like I do, the "wobble" force will cause something to eventually snap! I anchor mine down with tomato stakes.

A lot of this equation depends on the trajectory of the head. This is engineered into the head by the manufacturer. Different applications require different design features.
I'm with Dwaine. Play around & see what effects this particular head can provide. If you can't get where you want with it, try another.

I have used wobblers for 2 years. Raising the sprinkler 3 feet with no drift will only gain you a few feet with no wind. Its my experience that the water is falling at a 45º angle by the time it hits the ground from the 4 ft rise that we use. I am with Kilr on the water pressure with them. however, even with higher water pressure I dont see a huge diameter change. They seem to be designed to go about 40 ft diameter no matter what. I got them up to about 50 ft diameter with a 30 gpm well pump.

yo---if you are ever so inclined, you can also push more water through them if you drill-out the main orifice...it is just plastic---this won't increase the range, but the flow. which you must go with. lol.

also, the wobbling problem MIGHT be able to be solved with guy wirse, like they use for radio/tv BIG antennas. i think you will need 3 each.

Yes....wirse. :) Set up those wires with rebar metal stakes and you will find another source of nitrogen. Static electricity will find your wire and run to ground. This delivers a little nitrogen to the patch.
