I had a 865 in the spring that i gave to a friend to grow in his garden(it came up funkylooking),well to say the least he dident do the seed justice. Were talking a 30 lb pumpkin here. The others he grew were 996 Emmons and my 705 Girgus. Those are the possible crosses for the 865.My question is.Is it possible that the 865 got crossed with a zucchini or summer squash or can it only be pollinated with another pumpkin? Hope to here what other peoples thoughts are on this. Thanks in advance.John G...

it has to be a C. maxima to cross with it. I grew a 30 pounder this year too. My sunflower will help me with my little midget pumpkins, it's big so it makes up for them. Those are pretty good crosses, is he offering seeds? I'm trying to build up my seed library before next spring so I have plenty to give away to people. If he lives near you it could have crossed with one of yours though, other than that it's either selfed or crossed with the 996 os 705, or both, or all three. I hope this helps, Tom

John-
so is your question 1) was the 865 fruit was possobly crossed with something else - and it messed up his pumpkin. or 2) was your friends fruit possibly crossed with something else ?
I assume you mean 1)- I know of several growers that have grown the 865 and none of them have had any problems with 865 seeds. Linclon is a heavey hitter grower and very conscience of plants and their pollination- so i would that it wasn't pollinated with a squash or anything else except for the cross he intended. gordon assume that it wasn't

Having good seeds is only a part of the equation. A "proven seed" is not guaranteed to grow anything, if it only took "a good seed",we may all have 1000#ers. If you're only growing a 30# pumpkin with excellent seed stock, I'd put the blame on the grower and not the seed! my two cents,
kilr

Hi Gordon:Well i guess what i was getting at are the seeds that will come out of this small 30 lb pumpkin grown off the 865.And the only way to find that out is to plant them next spring.I was courious if anything besides a pumpkin could pollinate a pumpkin like a summer squash or zucchini.LOL Hey i dident know. Thanks for clearing that up for me Tom. and Gordon thanks for the reply. John
