Well My first batch of seeds took but then shortly after died ( too much water i think)

anyhow am starting my second attempt batch with lower heat temps soaked in paper towl i'm also useing STIM ROOT # 2

but was wondering once the seeds are filed wil it hurt just to dip the seeds in this stuff then put them into damp paper towl or does it matter how this stuff is applied to teh seeds for starting?

thanks

I did a few experiments with rooting hormones (Indole-3 butric acid and Naphthaleneacetic acid) one winter a few years ago. I took some seeds and added 5-6 different strengths (above and below the recomended concentrations) to the germination pots. About 2 weeks later, I pulled the plants and looked at the roots and compared them to some controls without the chemicals.

The plants with the rooting hormones often had more roots but they were quite deformed. I remember some of them having a big ball of small roots as opposed to the normal plant with a larger tap root and multiple secondaries. The plants themselves were all behind the normal controls in size, shape and color and in some cases were somewhat deformed as well. It was quite obvious to me that the rooting hormones did more harm than good.

It is possible that I didn't hit upon the proper concentration. It is also possible that with more time, the plants would have done better but I doubt it. I bailed out on the rooting hormone idea.

Dave, Here is a link to my diary re:stim root expriements I did. I found that generally root development was much more agressive with Indole-3 butric acid. I was rolling the seed in the powder like coating (chicken in shake and bake)

I had a few entries from this date that dealt with treated and non treated seeds.
