I recieved a letter informing me that I live in or near an area that is infested with gypsy moths. The DNR says that they are going to spray B.t.k. (Bacillus thuringienses variety kurstaki). Does anyone know if gypsy moths catipillars feed on pumpkin plants? And what if any effect can I expect the spray to have on my plants? Or other pests like cukes, svbs, ect. The letter states that the spray will be dispersed from the air in two treatments about 10 days apart. Eric

I found this: http://www.msue.msu.edu/msue/imp/mod02/01500593.html
I certainly see where there would be a concern for the leaves, and if they eat trees I guess anything is possible.

thats a form of BT I think? BT is organic, shouldnt be that harmful or beneficial to the pumpkins.

The version they're sounds like Mattch. Good stuff. Made by DOW. It won't hurt the pumpkins. I've never seen Gypsy Moth feeding on Pumpkins. But if they're hungry enough & have defoliated all the trees, they'll eat almost anything.
