Jim B. this might be a good question for you, but I would be greatful for any suggestions. My pumkin was growing at a steady pace up until a few days ago, now there is nothing happening, the tape hasn't changed a bit. I still have a little less than a month before I need to cut her off the vine. Is the growing season over for her? or is there hope that she might still gain a few pounds? Can I give her something? Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi Jeff, I wouldn't cut her off the vine until a day or so before the fair. I'm not an expert, but it can't hurt to keep her on the vine. I've dedicated a lot of time in taking care of my pumpkin as i'm sure you have. So we'll just wait it out and hope for the best. (do you have orange paint?) lol

So then its still a pumpkin. Don't know if you pick it and put it in the sun whether it will orange up or not but I do know it will be more likely to rot that way. I also know from experience that pumpkins/squash WILL continue to change colors off the vine....faster,slower, as much I don't know. I also have a zucchini thats a year old now thats still changing color...starting to go though(rot)....bright orange...............G

Sorry Flora, it doesn't look good. As a general rule ,when it stops growing, its done for good. Keep it on the vine and protected (a blanket or quilt will do) and keep under the tent. You may be surprised and it will gain an inch or two now and then. It will however keep until harvest time.Make sure to bring it to the NH weigh off at the Goffstown common on October 13th and 14th. Hope to see you there.

Hi Jim, you answered my question. As long as it will make it to harvest time then i'm all set. I have a tent type tarp over my pumpkin, and I put raised plastic over the rest of the plant today. It's getting cold outside. Never occurred to put a blanket over it at night, i'll have to do that when no one is watching. My family will really think i've lost it if they saw me tucking my pumpkin in. They already think i'm obsessed with this whole pumpkin thing.(wait until next year) Hope to see you at the common in Oct. That's where i'm bringing her.
