FYI - grow'em while you got 'em.
I am using the advanced seed starting method for quick results. Tonight I peeled off the seed coat of my 1029 and found black mold - in two places.
1) on the endosperm (the pointy tip where the first root starts)
2) on the top of the cotyledons
I decided to file and peel another just in case. Same result. Both were soaked in H2O2 and potted up. I don't know if these will germinate or not - time will tell.
posted an unfocused pic in the gallery.......

Im trying this on two seeds, i hope it works i got the idea from you, lol, i peeled the shell off but didnt soak the seed after it was off(really no need is there?)i put the seeds in planting mix with tip pointing down, i then put it ontop of my computer monitor where its warm in a pot with plastic over the top. How much faster you think this will germinate?, sorry about the spelling folks my 10 year old daughter isnt here so i can ask her how to spell certain words, hahahaha

You have to be careful not to damage the tip when removing the shell. If it's all right, and you are adding some bottom heat, I would think germination should be happing within 2 days. Give it a little time. I had half inch to inch roots on my test seeds within 3 days, by filing, soaking, putting in a wet paper towel and then in a baggie. I add bottom heat with a propagation mat, and put a towel inbetween the baggie and mat. This keeps the temp right around 80 degrees. Good luck.

In my experience, seeds that look like that are in trouble. I wish you all the best, but you might want to have a back-up plan.

Thanks Smitty this was one of my back up seed selections. Just wanted to share the info on this one just in case others had this one in their line up. Who knows it still might pop.
Sly - still might not be enough ambient heat if it is in a pot. Give it another day or two.

I use the same or similar method you described, usually they come up in about 3 days. Be careful about how moist the soil is because molds grow in moist soil just like pumpkins do. Tom
