This is my first year to try a giant pumpkin, have one I started around late march to see if I could grow one at all,so far so good.It is in a 35"x12.5" off-road tire and really taking off,to me atleast. It has 14-15 grapefruit sized leaves and starting to head toward the ground now.No blooms at all,but looks healthy.Have a direct root feed tube I placed when it started to mature for watering. It is simply planted in a rich soil and potting mix now.Any help to make atleast a large pumpkin would be helpful to me.The seed was a Burpee giant pumpkin seed,I know it probably wont happen, but am just amatuer now.Have also started 3 more seeds which have sprouted and are about an inch tall now, they are from mexico I beleive, grandparents gave them to me.Like I said, any help would be great, guess I would like to have one this year at least bigger than jack-o-lantern size to show off. Also,is it common for growing them in Texas, never heard of anyone else trying it?

The Assiter pumpkin patch in Floydada Texas has grown Atlantic Giants before. You will have to do something to overcome the heat if you really want a big one. This would be a good year to experiment with shade cloth and different watering techniques. Check out the archives here and the grower diaries for Boily and Don Quijote. They grow them in Australia and Spain. Climates that are closer to yours than much of the rest of the US. Good luck in your efforts.
