I found a guy who was throwing out a full sized pool solar heating cover (the blue bubble wrap looking kind), will that work as well as the black plastic, considering it has air cells that will bring the heat in? Curious if my pickup was worth the time... I plan on cutting it into 4 squares and using it to heat my planting areas for atleast 4 of my new plants.

As long as it's not too old I think it would. Our old pool covers start to just disitagrate from the sun and chlorine. I wouldn't want a bunch of tiny peaces of blue plastic all in my patch but if it's in good shape I think it would probably work good.

It should work as good if not better because of the insulating air pockets. I would preform a test with a soil thermometer to see how much heat is retained. At night is when you lose anything you gain in the daytime. That solar pool heater might be just the ticket for a night time soil insulating cover.
I could just kick myself for throwing away my old water bed bladder and safety liner. That stuff was thick and would have been great for what we use it for. Good luck

I have spent the past two seasons hand picking out small blue pieces of plastic from the previous land owners stupidity, plastic in the gardens lasts for ever it seems.
