Beet (stellern)

Cheyenne, Wyoming

It looks like all of my first choice plants, as well as my back-up plants will come up. Usually, I have several seeds that don't germinate.

I don't have room for all my plants. Which would you plant:

419 Pukos or 1074 Beauchemin?

The other plants that will be planted for sure are:

1097 Beachy
600.5 Gregory
753 Pappas

Thanks for your input.

What did the 419 grow again? Something big I think? 1074 is unproven but if I had the extra room it would be one of the first couple to go in. Alex.

I would grow the 1074 beauchemin because both parents(898 knauss x 790 daletas) have grown true monsters and better yet the 898 knauss grows super thick walled pumpkins. The 1074 beauchemin was estimated at 907lbs that makes it 18.37% over. The 898 knauss also grew the 1156 larsen 02 that was estimated at 946lbs thats 22.2% over. It's blossom end wall was 16 inches thick . the 790 daletas produced the 1245lb bailey in 02. So just takeing that into mind the 1074 beauchemin 03 could end up an amazing cross. Just think how great it would be to bring a pumpkin to the weighoff thinking it weighed 950 or so and watch the scale go up over 1100 lbs(WOW) go for it!!!

1074....very few 1000+ pumpkins can lay claim to being that heavy OTC.

come to think of it....that may be the heaviest OTC I've seen in my research on the subject for a pumpkin >1000#. It'll be interesting to see how the progeny turn out from it.

Gotta give the thumbs up for the 1074... It's going in my patch! I've got a replacement seed for you too for next year if it does well and you need another! Let me know...

Joe:

Assuming none of my plants die in the next week or so, one of the growers in our local pumpkin group will be very excited to plant it. Your 419 won't go unused.

Plant the 419 and the 1074. Wait a month or so and then make the decission, Who knows, strange things happens, and you may need the 419. The 1074 may flat vine or whatever

Leave that "extra plant" in the biggest pot you can for the longest time you can! One never knows what will happen the first few weeks in the ground.

Two years in a row now, I have had a plant break in two!!
