i believe that Roundup is called a post-emergent herbicide-- if it touches anything green, it will kill it by preventing the roots from being able to manufacture food for the rest of the plant. it gets on the leaves or stalks and makes its way to the roots. it is the BEST! it also is neutralized if it touches anything that is NOT green, such as soil. it is NOT a PRE-EMERGENT herbicide. a pre-emergent is just that; it stops the seed from germinating, or it kills the sprout once it does sprout. kinda like that woodchuck game you play at the fair----it pops up, and you WHACK it!
a good example of a PRE-EMERGENT herbicide is PREEN, but i saw a seminar tape from a western US growers conference, and it was deemed inappropriate for pumpkins because it MAY prevent the secondary vines' roots from forming, which we all know needs to happen for us!
i guess a secondary root is sort of like a new seedling, with the roots JUST forming. makes sense to me. ummm, perhaps type-into the address bar above:
pre-emergent herbicide GO
and see if that puts you on a better track....... eric some growers including myself will be trying WeedBlock material as a ground cover in and around the plants this year......i hope it works! eric

The best weeding is using the old hoe, spade or tiller.
As far as a herbicide for pumpkins, Curbit is a pre emergence. Not sure if it is available to Italy though. Smallest container I could find for it was a 2-1/2 gallon and will last me over eight years for my acre patch.

Don't use any herbicide near your pumpkin, if you want to get the maximum vigor from your plant.
