Due to popular demand, and because this is the time to start germinating your seeds if you haven't already, here's the Hawaiian gourd (pumpkin) seed planting chant:
He ipu nui! O hiki ku mauna O hiki kua Nui maoli keia ipu! (Translation:
A huge ipu (gourd, pumpkin) Growing like a mountain To be carried on the back Really huge is this gourd)
According to tradition, the effectiveness of this chant is augmented if performed in Hawaiian, preferably by a pot-bellied man, and in a location away from the home.
