My patch only has about a half a day of derect sunlight.I know I need to be in full sun for best results but I have yet to find a spot. now a days people are growing monsters with pritty small plants, but if I dont get full sun would it be better for me to let my plant get big? I would think that I would need the extra leaves to gather what sun I do have.what should I do?

As far as I know the 977 Andersen, bigges of safe pumpkins of 1997, was grown with much time of daily shade. In my opinion, maybe a little bigger plant than the small ones with good results. I would give it about 800 sq ft, but that is intuitive answer.

I'm facing the same thing this year in one of my patches. The sun is completely blocked by about 2 o'clock. I'm hoping that this will actually be a good thing, as alot of the stress caused by excesive heat later in the day, will be avoided.

i think perhaps it is a bit radical, but i wouldn't be surprised if somewhere in the world someone has reflected the sunlight toward their patch with some old mirrors, in extreme cases---i know i've thought about it a couple of times, being that there are two, approx. 3' X 3' mirrors in the basement that have been there for years, and i AM in the process of cleaning the basement.....maybe I'LL try it! and, even if no one uses this idea today or this season, hey, it might be a good idea later on, like next season? eg

You'll be alright with 1/2 a day of sun.

Equivilent sun with all the clouds and rain on the coast is equal to about a half a day of full sun everywhere else, so I think a half a day of sun would get you there just fine.

thanks everyone for the info.I was already thinking about reflecting sun light but I'll see how much time I have on my hands first.I think I'll make do with my half a day of sun and do my best to tend to the rest of my plants needs.
