Well it's less than a month before we will be starting the season & I'm wondering what everyone's realistic goals are. Although I would love to win the green jacket my realistic goal is to grow a nice green 800 lber........Paul

Great post Paul! I have set a number of goals this year. Of course, it is always to beat my personal best, which stands at 1056. I would like to see 2-1000lb fruit come from my patch this year, as well as an 800+lb squash. As a more lofty goal, I would like to retain the Wisconsin Traveling Trophy, which is passed on to the WI grower who brings the largest fruit to Nekoosa. I would also like to grow one of each- giant watermelon, giant cantelope, long gourd, and giant tomato big enough to enter in the Nekoosa contest. ok, im done now.

since my top weights for the last 3 years have declined steadily (728.5, 632.5, 510.) hey what's with the .5s?
oh, Danny.....! well, maybe they don't count..
ummm, i think this is THE year to grow a 1,000-plus fruit
or 3, as i have never buried the vines to any appreciable degree, and disease-prevention and barriering the fruit from the soil are my top concerns this year....
and, i'll be doin' the Green thing, so my goals are to
have at least one 1,000+ pumpkin, Killer Orange!, and one
1000+ squash, Devastating Green! aaaarrrggghhhh!! 'pal2

Well, the way I see it someone next year may show up with a 1000 lb pumpkin, and lose by 500 lbs. Thus my goal is 1600 lbs.

Just one goal. Grow a pumpkin heavier than the pumpkin the seed came from. 4 plants ranging from 208 to 1370.

aussie master, a AG plant, lightly fertilized, and clipped to one fruit/vine would easily get you 300 pounds

My goal is 600 pounds but would not be un-happy with an 800 pounder :)

I am shooting for 1000, but will be happy with anything bigger than last years personal best...It also has to weigh more than Brigittes. As most of you know my only other goal in life is to beat Clarence Koch for the Long Gourd Plaque. 2004 is the year.

A green jacket and a pumpkin over 1000 lbs. and I think this is not out of my reach. PB's are 715 Orange and 576 Green and the seeds from each of those could get me there. If not them some of the others could. I always strive to do better than the year before and if I do that I am satisfied. But I dream big, and work for it as well. Michelangelo said "The greater danger for most of us lis not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark. Although when he said it, it was in Italian and didn't quite sound the same.

4/8/2004 6:56:46 PM

I've been told that i'm still a beginner and not immune to rookie mistakes. Therefore, the only goal i'm going to post here is to do better than last year, 604.5. I have higher goals inside my own head, and they will remain there, where they will not be jinxed.

I also hope to get a cantaloupe to the weighoff, because last year's winner could have been beat by a grocery store cantaloupe.

Beating shannon would be fun too, but it doesn't matter. Also I'm trying 'maters and long gourds this year.

Pumpkin: 900, and also an amazingly orange one.
Squash: 650, and again one beautiful green one.

Not too bad for a second year grower with good seed, OK soil, and lots of Iish good luck. Plus a couple nice Cotton Candy pumpkins, a 2 lb. tomato, a 50 inch Long gourd, a 30 inch Extra Long Handle Dipper Gourd, 10 Jack Be Littles, 4 Hardshell Warty Gourds, and a 100 pound water melon. Alex.

To see Stunner and Wait till next year tie at 999.5 with a gentle breeze blowing the scale constantly...causing the reading to show1000, then 999.5 then 1000, then 999.5, then 1000,....

Realistically my goal is to grow an 850 pounder. Deep down inside I'd like to break the California record of 1105 pounds. My main goal is to learn as much as possible and get some real experience in growing a sizeable pumpkin.
