Relative newbie here wondering if there is any hidden differnece between hay and straw. I would like to till in straw to my site for moisture retention and areation factors. Have read that hay is good fro this, I assume straw is as well. Am I right?

Hay will have a lot of weed seeds included with it. Straw on the other hand if it was not threshed properly will also have a lot of oats, rye, or wheat with it. You will just need to insure your mulch is thick enough to prevent the weeds. I still feel either one is better than leaving the soil surface bare to the elements of nature. Shannon
