I've heard that some large pumpkins have been grown in "small" spaces but when this group says small they are talking about something like 500 square feet. I only have 600 square feet and I'm forever cutting vines that are busting out of my patch. I think I may be able to expand to 1000 feet next year which is what the pros recommend. You may not get anything huge in a 200-300 square foot patch but you'll have a good time anyway.

I have only 425 sq ft this year and my fruit is now 300" OTT (550lbs). Hoping to get over the 700 mark but growth is slowing now.

It can be done in small. My first year my so called patch was 7' X 7' I kept wrapping the vines around & around in a circle , the final weight was 353...Paul

last year my best fruit was grown in 200 sq feet.......weighed in at 547. have one now in that same spot, i measured it yesteday its 429 and still growing. same size plant as last years. you're gonna work your tail off keeping it small, but, if that's all the room you've got, then that's what you've got to do. good luck scott

13x14 is tough here Plump Pumpkin. Do you have room to grow a few vines over the grass? An understanding spouse? I grew a seed in a 10x12 space this year mainly to see fruiting color....the plant had three fruit pollinated, but none set.One aborted at about 55c. End result.....no pumpkin or squash. If I had room to circle the main or run the main on the grass I would have had additional chances at it though. If you do this...Id start at a corner and run diagonal to the other allowing the longest vine possible.I would certainly plant late...later than everyone else, because the late season dieback here seems to start early and with a small plant like that you'll be done in August.....especially if your in full sun. AG's....Atlantic giants...are the variety....any of the seeds offered by this site should do you well..make sure they are AG xAG's as Ive seen talk of AG x Big Max and visa versa here.Look for stuff from guys like Bruiser...grown in warm areas that did well. Heat tolerance is an overrated problem used as a crutch by some people to explain difficientcies in grower's techniques or too much concentration on the lesser aspects of growing A.G.'s. All the genetics you need for the first year or two are here on this site......good luck.....G (no.massapequa)

O well...thought it might be fun to try. What about Big Max Pumpkins? I hear they can get big. Scott...How did you work your vines and where did you first plant the plant? Thats a pretty good pumpkin for that size of space. LiPumpkin...Yes, I guess I can grow a little onto the grass. It seems as if most of the seeds this site offers is allready sold out? Are they? Or have they just not come out yet? Thanks Jim

"Look for stuff from guys like Bruiser...grown in warm areas that did well. Heat tolerance is an overrated problem used as a crutch " Somewhere back down the road,,AG's were born..Now,,they all had to come from the begining of AG's,,,how can some be heat tolerant and some not??Hope you understand my question....
