We told the Border crossing guard we were going to the Giant Pumpkin seminar. He said it was a little early for Pumpkins...Luckily Brigitte had everything all planned out and had pictures. He scanned the pictures, then asked what we feed them. Of course we all blurted out "MILK". It was a great time...P.S. Whoever stole my Leinenkugels Honeyweiss on Saturday Night, While I was taping the Pumpkin Poker. Brigitte has given everyone in our bunch her cold for free. So enjoy :)

WOW. This was my first year there and there were just SOOOOOOO many people. Not nearly enough time to talk to them all. The "number 5" was just sort of a joke from Danny that we should collect as many seeds as we could from pumpkins ending in 5. Ex: 865, 935, 845, 801.5. He listed many many more. Getting into Canada we had no problem, just told em about the seeds and convention and he let us go. And coming back we had no trouble smuggling them back in the baggage. LOL. Great time but I'm falling asleep as I type. Alex.

Two amazing events took place for me........Alun flew in and got through international customs with seed. The greater event was that I found the airport and captured Alun for the trip into Canada. We both got in and out with seed in toe.

A most delightfull discovery at the seminar is that Bill B. lives just an hour uphill and North of my patch in sandy loam. This means any drift or leach will sooner or later get to my patch. That would not be bad news either. I shall consider naming that pumpkin in honor of his buffooning nature if it happens. He promised to do some stuff while facing South for me. We shall see. :)

As new record may have been set. Over 600 $2.00 chances were bought by the attendees on a 723BB. Alowing for some motivation towards the end of the ticket selling the exact number of tickets sold may not be known but one seed did cause $1200.00 to be credited to the convention income.

We just got back. I thought we'd "bought it" at the border coming back. As my vehicle approached the gate, an officer ran up behind our vehicle (he had bright orange tickets!) They asked where we were going, and where we came from. Then they asked to put the vehicle in park, and checked our I.D.s. They asked us to put our back windows down so they could check the contents. When asked if we bought anything my wife said "just some shirts and shorts". They asked how many shirts? I figured the case of beer, the cuban cigars, and the pumpkin seeds were history, when they turned and said, "have a nice day"!

going up, we got a "PULL TO THE RIGHT AND GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE" !! LOL.

for real !! they unzipped every zipper of every bag. nothing went unsearched. we were very afraid of them confinscating seeds (since everyone on here talks about how picky they are now days). "what are these little baggies for," they asked to which nick told them, "pumpkin seeds". they were like, "most people dont use these for pumpkin seeds". LOL. we finally got through will all seeds in tact.

THEN THEY ALMOST DIDNT LET US BACK IN !! lol. well they did, but the guy was definitly being a jerk.

other than that, it was an AWESOME WEEKEND!! great meeting everyone (especially people from here and getting to put faces to s/n's). THANKS TO ALL !!

sneakysnake, nice meeting you and many others. Sorry, I missed talking to some growers, hopefully next time. I picked up a few tips and we'll be ready to roll in one month, can't wait to get started.

LMAO Drew

When we came to the border Friday night, the lady asked what we were doing and Jack said we were going to a pumpkin seminar and she said isn't that in Oct. and he said no that's when we weigh them and started to explain and she just rolled her eyes and said, "get out of here"

LOL, we decided explaining pumpkins was a good way to get across easy because none of them care. So we did the same on the way back and got through easy.
