Can someone help me with what is a good pre-emergent herbicide. I want to try and control the weeds before they emerge where I plan on planting my AG's. Naturally I want something that is safe with no phototoxcity to the plants. Thanks for your help.

Scuffle hoe very carefully in the rows. But watch for roots. Hand pull where roots are. Most Pre's tend to root prune ever so slightly.

That's what I was afraid of. But I am growing in an area of close to one acre and its filled with weeds, consequently aphids, cucumber beetles, squash bugs, etc, etc. etc.

Curbit is a pre-emerg for pumpkins. Works great on lambsquarter but not grasses. I used it on my field pumpkins but not on the Atlantic Giants. Need to use a selective followup herbicide for the grasses. Also, Sandea is a pre and post emerg for pumpkins but too expensive for the small patch.

Tremor may be able to comment on its use with AG's but we used Ronstar exclusively at the sod farm I worked at for a while. The cow manure we used had a lot of weed seed in it but the Ronstar did a great job at pretty much eliminating the need for hand weeding.

Ronstar is great for grassy weeds in turf. But it's not labeled & I can find no test data for cucurbita. I've never tried Ronstar on pumpkins. I have tried & liked Pendimthelin (Prowl, Pre-M, Pendulum) for grassy weeds in Pumpkins. Though it's not labeled either.
Curbit is a nice broadleaf (dicot) herbicide. You could add a monocot herbicide to it. Maybe Dacthal since it is fairly gentle.
Easier still would be "Strategy" which is a combination of Ethalfluralin ("Curbit" for dicots) and clomozone ("Command" for monocots).
Check out this link for some good options & pay heed to the timing recommendations very carefully:

You're probably going to have to Roundup the existing vegetation before you do anything at all. Wait a week, then plow or till.
