As long as it looks healthy, I would keep it on the vine until the day you have to bring it to the fair, it stays alive that much longer. Cantalouping isn't a bad thing just your pumpkin maturing. Some pumpkins stay smooth and some "canaloupe". Good luck at the fair

As far as the cantalouping , pumpkins that have it generally weigh more than those that don't. keep measuring unless it gets soft or starts measuring smaller don't pick it.........Paul

Most of the leaves before the pumpkin are dead from powerdy mildew,,,however,,about 20ft. beyond the pumpkin are alive,,large and healthy,,will the pumpkin still grow? How is this going to affect the longivity of it being on the vine??

i think i'm probably in a little worse shape than you, having maybe 1/4 plant(if lucky) with any leaves left on it!went from 20 lbs/day early aug. down to 4lbs/day last week.i just keep measuring, and as long as there's something happening, i'm gonna leave it on the vine ! i keep feeding the stump area cause i don't have any drip hoses. used some granular around the vines. don't know if the plant can make any use of the fertilizers without any leaves ? anyone want to weigh-in ? thanks.
