1996 by Bill Greer.. 1006.. He weighed in 1/2 hour before the Zehrs did, but since the Zehrs had the larger one, and it was same day, the credit goes to them. The 1010 Hoult was UOW in 1995.

Oh, if you are wondering, it was Jill, in NY, her first was in 89, and ever sense then, she has gotten one every year, except for a few years, where there was a bad drought

First of all is she really had a 1000 pounder someone but you would have heard about it. Secondly why is so secretive? We all like to grow these for ourselves but a little bit of showing off is still fun and recognition for ones accomplishments amongst peers is not bad. I'm starting to believe you have other intentions aka "check out the gardenweb.com" and actually Jill is a figment of your imagination. Like my Grandpa always said you need to back it up inorder to get credibility.

Im with Andy on this one. this is the second time we heard about the elusive "jill", and this time she supposedly grew a 1000 pounder in '89, 7 years before the Zehr's and Bill Greer did it. What seed did she use to grow this 1000 pounder in 1989? I think SOMEONE on this board other than yourself would know about a person that's grown 1000 pound pumpkins every single year since 1989, except for a "few years". Is she growing partners with Rocky Pacelli or something? Scott

if some one grew a 1,000 lb-er and never got it weighed or she never told anybody about it or they didn't want any attention or whatever and now there isn't any proof of it ...then did it ever exist? or maybe a tree in the forest fell over on it and it didn't make a sound, so no one heard it?

her first was weighed, and I think it was 1086 or something like that, don't know exact numbers off the top of my head, but it was at a small local fair, and she beat the second place winner by like 500 pounds, so she figured competition isn't worth it, so she stopped going to fairs, but never stopped growing! :) Now, I am trying TRYING to get her to get to a good weighoff! She loves the fact she is an unknown grower, and thinks that if she posts here, she will get numourous seed requests, I told her not more then 600! lol

John, I think Gordon Thompson's 755 was the world record in 1989. If Jill had a 1086 that year, I'm thinking her current fruit should be well over a ton at this time. That would so hard to keep that out of the news. Find out what her PB is and maybe she could share some pictures with us? If she has a squash seed that would throw a 1500 pound greenie, I would have an interest in that:0)Joe P.

this post just breaks me up...........haaaaaaahaaaaaa......oh yeah you guys hear about Jack, he grew a 1100 lb greenie in 90...didn't take it to any weighs-off, didn't want to show up Stellpflug or Nesbitt......but quietly enjoys telling the story around the fire on cold nights with his wife Jill..........LMAO

i dont know about any of you guys, but i dont believe a word of it. IF she indeed showed up at some local fair SOMEONE other than John here would know about it. But she's just such a damn good grower that "the competition just wasnt worth it"..........OH PLEASE....Shes growing thousand pounders every year, she grew one 7 years before anyone else did, she beat the world record in 1989 mind you by like 300 pounds.........IF in fact that were true, someone at the fair would have mentioned it to someone else, and it would have been in the record books.....i'd like to take this story and use it in my patch as fertilizer, because that's about all its good for.

I believe it is possible for "Jill" to have grown 1000# pumpkins and not jumped on the "look at me" wagon. There is a definate down side to sticking your head out of the sand, look at the scepticism and negitivity on this thread.

Andy,
What if Jill is Amish and a photo would be an graven insult to her religion? I personally don't think she'll be at Niagara, why blow your cover now?

Reminds me of the Mets awesome pitcher they had a few years back in spring training.. Sid Finch wasnt it? Threw 130 MPH fastballs, top secret.. It was Sports Illustrated hoax and had the world buzzing..
I have been reading and posting since 1997 on the mallorn list, and here, and have never even heard of Jill but one time.
Great entertainment though.. I believe in bigfoot and the lochness monster too..

Okay Laugh all you want but veryone in NJ knows the story of Jill...A little lady who sat in the Pine Barrens weaving straw into perfect soil...and was teaching the gancarz's and Laemelle's to grow pumpkins...till the Evil empire from Goffstown NH stole her and replaced her with the NJ devil..from time to time she woould escape and go and teach the stelts and weirs and emmons her secrets...But alas the NH Posse went and got her again....I think shes loose again and living in Berard's basement....look out stunner!!!The evil Kuhn and his gang are on the way to get her back from Maine!

lol, Maybe so, but, if the is lying, she got me fooled! Because, she has been talking pumpkins for the last two months, and nothing is off. I am getting seeds from her, so, We'll see. And hey if they don't come, I still got my 1458 Whittier, and the rest of my seeds to plant. And, Yes, Jill Pacelli is her name though, I am not 100% sure where she lives, until I get her package.

Jack and Jill went up the hill,
To grow a great big pumpkin,
1000 pounds green, didnt want to cause a big scene,
So told no one, cause they thought it was nuttin.
or...
There was once this girl named Jill,
with Jack, grew fruits on a hill,
Told a big lie, 1000 pounds they did cry,
Without proof - meant nothing - no thrill.
or
The Pacellis thousand pounder was huge,
Nearly as big as the story they use,
For only now did they say,
thier pumpkins we wont dont display,
We tell only the people we choose.
