So, this and the green jacket go to the biggest "True Green" squash huh? I think you'll come to regret those two words "True Green". That's terribly subjective and is going to cause A LOT of problems next fall. I know what you mean Wayne but if someone grows a monster squash that is deemed to be a squash by his weigh-off then he may very well have a case for the jacket and trophy. Grey is "Not" green.
BTW Wayne...you can wave all the shinny stuff you want under my nose and I'm still sticking with the pumpkins. I ain't no Bass! Maybe if you drop the "B". ;0)

Phil, True Green just means no squmpkins. If my memory is correct the winner will be the largest green/grey/blue squash with allowances made for the normal squash striping some varieties show. And if a squash is deemed a squash by a certain weighoff that doesn't mean it is truly a squash. I'm sure there is going to be predetermined judges for the "True Green" Jacket & Trophy. And I'm almost sure plenty of pics will be needed to verify the true color. With this not being a GPC event we don't have to go by the crazy GPC squash rules.
BTW Wayne....Sweet Trophy

Sorry to have been a wet blanket Wayne. I just thought the color thing WILL be a problem. Like I said in my previous posting "I know what you mean by true green". It's about time you squash growers get together and set the ground rules now before the season starts. Your jacket/trophy may very well set the tone for "True green" squash in the future and discourage those "squmpkins" being planted at all. If you thought I was making fun of your efforts , then I apologize. That was never my intention. I was simply pointing out a problem that I see on the horizon. It is a nice trophy BTW. Kudos.

Whoever wins that trophy will have a hard time passing it down if they dont win the following years. Maybe we can arrange for a new trophy to be purchased with raffels/contributions for every years largest greenie winner? Just a thought........

HA! Pennsylvania!?! If you're ever in MA just look towards Boston, right above the power and fish processing plants and chances are the sky will be GREEN! What is there in PA that's a better omen than that?! And all of us Irish, we just love all things green. Good luck to the lot of ya' and don't be forgettin' to plant a few spuds in '04! Alex.

It's about time folks to duly recognize and pay tribute to legitimate true green-grey squash 100%. For over 20 years here in Windsor, there are no ifs, ands or buts when it comes to squash. Our growers (Hebbs, Wentzells, Corkums, Rhodenizers, etc.) know well before hand what they are growing in their patch and enter respectively in the proper class. We have been very fortunate over the years to have their participation and yes, they can grow squash! Imagine if the first 1,500 lb. cucurbita is a squash? Good Luck and Best Wishes on the inaugral Green Jacket. Danny, Howard & the Dills
