How long can you hold a pumpkin after it is harvested? My pumpkin (620lbs) is still lying in the pub were the weigh-off was held. The weigh-off was more than 5 months ago and the pumpkin is still intact. Is this normal?

Interesting indeed. Tell us what you fed the pumpkin throughout the growing season. Did you use any bio-magic growth controlling chemistry? Did you apply anything to the outside of the pumpkin to preserve it?

Get some of those seeds and offer them as possible good genetic developement consideration.

Temperature plays the largest role in preservation.

I still have a howden in the garage from Halloween.
Funny that it has lasted this long.

I didn't feed the pumpkin anything special or applied anything to preserve it. The temperature in the pub is high as in most pubs. The pumpkin was 5% under the charts and 102 days old when harvested. It stopped growing 3 weeks before harvest. I hope to get some seeds from it, but I don't know if they will still be good after such a long period.

If you put it on a table and put your arms around it you can hold on to it for a long time or untill it gets mad at you and it wants its space, but if you just pic it up and hold on to it that would depend on the size of the pumpkin and how strong you are.
