Field type is probably Connecticut Field, or similar type, which AG is not either. Since weight is not a factor it is not a "weighoff" and sounds more like a judging of the shape. AG will probably NOT be welcome. My .02 --Bruiser

You probably want to look for a competition that specifically mentions size or weight as a deciding factor. After checking with over 30 fairs in Virginia I only found a handfull of "largest" pumpkin competitions and most of those were largest circumference instead of weight. One actually listed their criteria as "largest diameter" which I would assume they define as longest or possibly widest.

Local Fairs,County Fairs,Agricultural Fairs usually treat the A.G. and other C.maxima as squash because thats what they are. They are not "pumpkins". Pumpkin itself is a common street term, colloquialism if you would, and basically describes an orange squash-like fruit. Botanically these ag's are squash. You need to find a "Giant Pumpkin" contest, a "Heaviest Squash" contest. The literiture should allow the soft stemmed ag's. Hard stems are pumpkin.A cut across the stem of a "hard stem" will usually have a cross section that looks like a star. These are "pumpkins" . The squashes have a stem that is soft and tends to flare out at the fruit.Confused? Answer this one........I have a zucchini that I picked last year that is still solid and still down in the basement. It was about 6 lbs at that time it was picked. It has now turned orange and is still solid. Can I enter this orange zucchini squash in a GPC pumpkin contest?.............G

AG's, Prizewinners & Big Max are Cucurbita Maxima. Most others Cucurbita Pepo.
