Hey guys(and gals), Its looking like I may be able to set up a contest near Fort Wayne, IN at Hilgers farm Market for next September. I was asked about what the sponsor needed to do, and what I needed to do. Anyone that has set up and ran a contest in the past, I would like your imput as to what I need to do, and what the site needs to do.
Thanks, Tom Beachy

OK how about someone answering the question? I can suggest they will need a digital platform scale provided by the site with a readout large enough to be seen. An elevated stage of some sort so the crowd can see what is going on. There should be a PA system available so you can announce who's pumpkin it is, give the weight, interview the grower, etc. There should be two forklifts available for moving fruit to the scale if some sort of lifting device is not used a team of growers and a tow strap to move them from the pallet they are brought in on to the scale. Ribbons for all entries or certificates are a nice touch. Prize money always helps ensure a good turnout of pumpkins. Advertise and promote the event. You don't have more than one if you can't bring in a crowd that spends some money at the sponsors site. You have to have an efficient means of notifying local growers of the contest. Give me time and I'll think of a few more.
