HotPumpkin (Ben)

Phoenix, AZ

Well, I am interested in growing myself a few pumpkins this year to get "the hang" of it. I really enjoyed it as a small boy many years ago and wanted to try again. Wow, I am amazed at the information that is now available. However, I have a few questions:

1. Is Phoenix just way too hot to grow effectively? I am planning on putting my seedlings in the ground in a week or so and I suppose my Big Max should be ready around end of June. By June, we will consistently see 100+ degree days. Normally July and August is where we will see 105+ on a daily basis.

2. What do you suggest for a seed that would be more resistant to the hot weather?

Thanks all for the help.

Ben

Phoenix summers are so hot that the pumpkin and plant will cook. Pumpkins are a cool climate beast and can't take week after week of 110 degree heat. If you grow, look into shading your patch, and a misting system, and get an early start (like March).
