I know that the majority of giant pumpkins just end up chucked on the compost pile every year while I'm sure that are individuals or corps that would love to have them for special events or fall displays. What I would like to do is get a network of pumpkin growers all over North America who would love to have a buyer for their pumpkin at seasons end. I would market "Buy a Giant Pumpkin" through SeedOutlet.com using a price structure similar to the one in Langevins book. When I get an inquiry I can contact all the closest growers from the network and let the customer know what we have to offer blah blah blah, you get the idea. If you routinely sell your own pumpkins that's fine to, this isn't some kind of exclusive contract. I would just let you know if there was an interested buyer in your area and you could take it or leave it. I'll still have to work out the money aspect but that won't take long at all.

I figured we have a central place for seed why not have a central place to market our pumpkins (and why not the same place:))? E-mail me if you would like me to put you in my network database (I will need just your name and zip code). Once I get the paperwork together I will send you the details and get your suggestions. I'm sure it will include some kind of seed return agreement so you can get your seeds back.

Forgot to mention....you don't have to be a heavy hitter. I'm sure there are probably even more customers out there for the pumpkins we consider small (by our standards).

Svrichb sounds good to me but a question for ya. Say I give you my name and all. I plan on having 8 plants this year and therefore 8 pumpkins/squash. Say I lose 5 to SVB's 1 to PM and 1 to WMV. That leaves me with one fruit which I didn't expect at the time I gave you my info. I would want to keep the fruit because in that case it would be my only one. Would I be held accountable for my actions at the time I signed up and be forced to sell it. Alex.

Alex,

You would not be obligated for anything. If someone contacted me about a pumpkin from in or around Norton, MA then I would contact you to see if you had anything you wanted to sell. If you don't have anything you want to get rid of then thats fine. If you sell your pumpkin on your own then that's fine too.

I'm not trying to tie anyone into anything...I just wanted a list of interested people before I spend the money advertising. It hardly pays for each of us to try to advertise individually so I figured it would work better as a joint effort. I probably won't start the ads until closer to September so please continue to let me know if you are interested.

International members are wanted too. I will add any country to my ad campaign as long as I have at least one interested grower there. Thanks Smitty and Owen!
