Pumpkineers,
Here is an update on the green jacket raffle. It has been nearly 2 weeks, with 2 more to go to send in your raffle ticket money before the draw date of March 14th. The seeds listed below will be raffled off to individual winners of each lot. Tickets can be purchased, one ticket for 10 dollars or 3 tickets for 20 dollars. We have had a nice response, but I think with the quality seeds involved in this raffle, we could do much better. To those who have donated seeds, and those who have already purchased tickets, thank you. Just wanted to get the raffle back and fresh in everyone's mind and make a late push to get anyone interested to get it in the mail soon.

I forgot to include my address. Please makes checks or money orders (US Funds) out to Rocky Rockwell and send them to the following address..
Rocky Rockwell 112 Roosevelt St Sayre, PA 18840
Again, the raffle is one for 10 dollars, or 3 chances for 20 dollars. The raffle money must be in my hand by March 13th (which is a Saturday) for the March 14th draw date.
I should also note again that this is to benefit the green jacket/trophy/plaque award that will go annually to the grower who officially weighs on the largest true green/grey/blue squash inthe world in 2004. Wayne Kennedy, Glenn Andrews, and I are heading up this function and hope to further the greenies in todays orange society.
The DIll family has given thier blessing (permission) to this legality of this auction.
As usual, we thank you for your support.

Another foot in the patch to go, hoping this weekends tropical heatwave rolling in (45 degree forecast) will melt some of this ICE AGE of the patch. To keep my mind humming squash and pumpkins, I bought a bag of seed starter mix and am trying some germination techniques. 4 seeds in bags with paper towels, 2 in peat pots with bags over them on top of the fridge, 2 in a heating pad in a cooler with the lid slightly propped open.. Just want to see how each method works. I have always been the baggie on top of the fridge starter. How about everyone else? What is your favorite way of starting your seeds?

I be the ype who goes with a cooler 1" propper over or slid to the side. Heating pad under a towel on the bottom. Peat pots put in there 3 days before to prewarm. seeds filed and soake about 5 hours. I actually get up at 1 Am to drop all the seeds into there selected cups then go back to bed and plant at 6 before work. Seems to work good for me so I continue with this method. temp inside is monitored and an even 85 degrees is held!

Just to make one more clarification, I have had some questions accompany the money being sent in about who is eligible to win the jacket and trophy. Anyone who weighs in officially a true green squash is eligible. This is not limited to those who enter (although support of this cause is appreciated), but it is open to all who put a greenie in the garden and make the attempt! There is no sign up, there is nothing that needs to be done, except grow a monster greenie and be the largest officially weighed in in the year 2004! Best of luck.. and may you all finish second to me! heehee.. (Size 48 R please)
