Dave these Heaters are for stock tanks I believe and they are to prevent the water from freezing. Something you dont have to worry about in the summer. A plain 55 gallon barrel painted flat back should heat itself nicely to around 80*. I fill my 200 gallon tank in the morning, and when I wake up in the afternoon it is normally 70 - 8- degrees. I then open the system up and let it run through the dtip system.

I use the stick your finger in it barrels thermometer. A little bit warm is 100 degrees while a little bit cold is 95 degrees. As Shannon points out this varies from day to day but is a real inexpensive warmer upper.
Water feeding from gravity fed tanks moves through the system so slowly that I believe it is very close to ambient by the time it is absorbed by the soil. The cost of heating hotter than soil temperature that always feels cool is a flat out waste of money and time.
Thermal shock is minimal moving from a gravity system if it starts out at or about body temperature. The ground always feels cool to touch in the Northeast except maybe in pure sand along the beach.
A very light ground leaf mulch of half an inch or so will work wonders to make the soil stay at a fairly even temperature. It does not take much if anything under the canopy of the great pumpkin forrest.

Most of those heaters only kick on when the temp gets to about 40 degrees anyway. So they would not work during the summertime.
