Where have some of the posters gone?I haven't seen any posts from some of the posters earlier in the season. I hope they're seasons didn't end early for them. I enjoy coming to this site and reading all of the info. Jeff352, how far down in Georgia is Cairo? i notice you have talked about heat quite a bit this summer. The weather channel showed some low forty degree temps for some of you growers up in the north. How has that effected your pumpkins?

well, i live in wales ny about 30 miles se of buffalo--the weather here is erratic this year(and always i guess)not much of a spring-extreme heat and drought for the summer-now night temps in the low 40's and day temps in the low 80's--plants are ok but pumpkins have slowed down dramatically--not sure if it is me or the weather--first real year trying to grow the big one--biggest out of my three is about 400lbs-but having fun--good luck with yours--

The pumpkin growth, and thus my excitement has waned in the last 20 days! I've only gained 10 pounds of growth in that time, and the chance at a 200lb+ are gone i'm afraid. I'm thinking ahead to next year already, and the changes i have in store.....learning from my mistakes this year, i hope!!
I'm still hoping to make it to 150lbs on my biggest, and that's not all shabby for my 1st year, i guess.
Hope everyone does GREAT at the weigh-offs!!

cuz,,,I cant get an accurate weight on my biggest,,my wife says it is a flat pumpkin,,as it is kinda flat on the top,,but the other 3 sides are filling out,,,,the top seems to be filling out a little,,but still flat...I'm guessing its about 150-170,,,,I got 5 weeks till weigh off also...It seems to be growing very slow at this point,,I just hope it continues to grow til then,,maybe this first year grower will hit 200,,it's pretty heavy when I try to lift...Good luck!!

Greenhorn,
I can't speak for the anyone else of course but I know I haven't been around the message board much in the last few weeks myself. Between Cub Scout camping trips, school starting back for my son, taking a very long weekend to travel to the Nascar race in Bristol, and thus receiving a hairline fracture in my left foot while out of town. Not to mention been busy at work preparing for my next training class. I haven't been in the patch or online as much as I would have liked. I have gotten a lot done this weekend in the patch though.....Karen

Dale Jarrett is my favorite. I didn't start watching racing until after I married my husband. I prefer to be at the races verus watching them on TV. Bristol is my favorite track though. We have tickets for the first race ever at Kansas City later this month.... Karen

Cuz and Jeff.... All i've ever been able to grow in the past have been 10 to 15 pound Jack-o-lanterns so your 150 and 200 sounds great to me. This year i just want some large pumpkins for halloween. Next year I want to try my hand at the world-renouned AG! Good luck folks!

Jeff, The loss of Dale Earnhardt to Nascar was a great one, I still can't believe it sometimes. I like Dale Jr. I grew up real close to Daytona, this was only the second year that we didn't go to July race. To tell you how big of a Nascar fan my husband is he was going to propose to me at Daytona with one of those planes carrying the banners, until I told him to take his dad to the race instead of me.

Greenhorn, I love those UPS, DJ commercials, especially the little boy saying he is going to hold his breath until Dj drives the big brown truck. If you can get any great deals on Jarrett racing stuff working at UPS, please email me.

Karen,Don't over look Mark Martin. He's having a bad year, but he is due to win the big prize.I was sitting in a room with over 30 men watching the race when when Dale Sr. died. Not a dry eye in the house. He was my hero I never cheered for him you did'nt have to you just new at the end he was going to be there.I miss watching him,but hey Harvick is doing well. H-K-J,I think BrianC has alot bigger ones still on the vine.Ken

Dale Earnhardt main headquarters is only down the road from me in the next county. When he died there were a whole sea of people going to the building to mourn and place posters with messages and flowers outside the building. The sight with the glass front of the building reflecting the blue sky was enough to make anyone cry.
