Hi Everyone,
We know that vines can be directed to go pretty much where you want from reading your postings. Our main vine is quite long now, 15' or so. We would like it to curve away from the snow fence border, but I think we waited a little too long to begin training it that way since some of the tap roots are in 3". Is it okay to lift the vine and tap roots out to move the vine an inch or so each day if we carefully cover roots over again with dirt? Also if we bend the vine too much will it cause internal damage and show up as cracks later as it grows? Thanks for your advice.

Well, we had a very bad storm on the 4th, and the wind ripped out one of our 8ft primary vines. we also incurred a split in the vine. At the warmest part of the next day, we re-buried all of the tap roots and it has grown 2 ft since. So, maybe this will help a bit. not sure of how much you should pull up, but the last 3 ft of the vine shouldnt have to many roots.the vine will be more flexible at the warmest part of the day...gp

The vine can be moved if you do it carefully, however I think it will set you back some. The tap roots will take some time to re-establish themselves. I would use some bamboo stakes and direct the new growth in the desired direction. Leave as many taps roots in as possible. If you do this in the afternoon you are less likely to cause damage to the vine.

Hi GP and Ken D.,
One of the kids posted a thanks to you today, but I don't know why it didn't post up. When I signed on to check out new posts, it wasn't there. We just wanted to thank you for the advice and tell you we have devised a plan to move the main vine so the pumpkins on it will be in the best possible position. Stay tuned to our diary for an update.
