I was just searching through some info on the 582 Hester and 695 Handy.... the 582 Hester has structural problems (Splits :-( ) but is an extremely rapid grower as many experienced so far... Now the 695 Handy (the pollinator) seems consistent with a nice shape fruit with consistency in being heavy to the charts, with the pollinator having a good shape that can hold some weight and the 582 Hester being the one to provide that type of weight.... is this seed possibly "THE ONE"..... Just got me thinking, Love hearing your input, Steve

I agree Steve, I think to get to the 2000 lb. pumpkin the structure has to be improved, thicker walled pumpkins. I like the 760.0 Pappas 2003, it’s a 582.0 Hester 2001 x 898.0 Knauss 2001. The Knauss has consistently thrown dense, thick walled pumpkins as well as producing four pumpkins over 1000 lbs itself.
Just my two cents.

That idea of yours sounds good. Another THEORETICAL great cross should be the 1383 Daletas, as it is 783 x 898. And we all know how high number seeds from Steve use to perform (1230, 1016, 1075).

I agree with Carlos. Another thing to consider about the 1385 is that the pollinator grew the 1180lb HMB winner. Dale

Now how about this match. The 582 with the grandaddy of over the chart fruit the 709.5 McCallum 2002 at 34% heavy. The 709 has produced two otc fruit as well.

Thickness is good but is skin texture just as important. The skin texture of the 846 Very few splits even with thinner walled pumpkins... 846x845 or 846x898 or 846x695 crosses may be even better . Bigger faster growing fruits crossed with the 846x582 846x783 may be good to While the 1458 may produce a bigger pumpkin with thicker walls but will this prevent a higher number of pumpkins that split that is the question one has to ask. While the 845 produces big pumpkins and one of the thicker walled pumpkins it still tends to split more often than the 846. just some thing to think about. Mark
