My question is should one keep two pumpkins on plant to slow the growth dowm so pumpkin doesn't get to big to fast as long as said pumpkin is growing at a good rate? Umama and umpapa yesterday grew both about 25lb.

Mark...what are your goals? To "get" one? To get a "big" one? Worlds record? Depending on your patch size these plants can hold a few biggies no problem. I had 550,417,309 and 175 on one plant last year. There were a few growers with multiple 700+ lbers last year. But,if going for broke...one per vine. if somewhat concerned about saving face at the end of the year...grow a couple or three...never know when one's gonna rot, stress out, stop growing,or split. I use the "shock absorber method of leaving two -three on a plant...any big surge from those 3 inches of rain last night gets distributed among three fruit....not just one. The plants can do multiple fruit of fair size...are you willing to risk it all on one pumpkin? (unless yoy have many plants)....G

Mark, In late July you should only have one or two fruits,if you want big ones. Take measurements every other day or so, for the next week or two and keep the one that's growing the fastest.
