I havent covered up any of the vines on my plant... because quite frankly I cant because there are vines everywhere and I cant get to them. However, I would be able to cover the secondary that Pepper is on as it is away from the main vines and along the side of the house. Would covering the the 12 foot long vine completely just after the the stem help any or not at this point? Leaving about 3 feet of course for the vine to lift.

More dirt the better, more roots. You can just cover at the base of each leaf stem.
