At what consistant temperature (F) will seeds start to hatch? Will they "hatch" if the night time temps are still in the 40's and 70's during the day? Give me an idea. I planted a few seeds out doors trying to see if they hatch. It has been a few days nothing yet! My back yard is SW facing and HOT! When the temps says 70 in the front of my house it is 10 to 15 degrees hotter in the back. Maybe I have chance?

"Hatch"! That's cute. The seeds will germinate within a ranger of soil temperatures from a very slow 70*F to an insane fast of 95*F with so called optimum being around 75-85*F.
This has little to do with ambient air temperature. Soils are stubborn to warm if night time lows are still dipping below 50. The seeds are very likely to rot if the soil is both cold & wet.
A good soil thermometer would help.

An inexpensive way to germinate seed with words and pix explaining how to pot them too...may be found in my diary.
