I think everyone should take a look at this article. Its very interesting and scary at the same time.
I can email it to anybody if the url doesnt work. Its a farily long article so make sure you put a little time aside to read it.
Post any observations here. This might make for an intersting topic.

I skimmed through it, and looks though that a winter "paradise" for me shall come true? haha, I realize it isnt just -10 everywhere, and is in reality harsher...About global warming itself I have some ideas from which I think would highly affect global warming, as in reducing it. Just need some scientist, and technicans to help me out...Global warming is a topic I think you should all take a good look at, see what you can do about it. Its worse then 1 may think...Good topic Case

I agree with Glen....a "Non-Pumpkin Related" post. The material presented in the article deals with a "theory" regarding long term climatological changes.
Stan PS. There's also a theory that the sun is "burning up". :>)

Ok, forget the whole thing...I apologize for misplacing my post. i quickly posted it during my lab class and didnt think about what board to put it on right away. It doesnt matter anyways. I wont post anything BUT "Pumpkin stuff" from now on. If you guys want it moved, then email Ken or John. I cant move it somewhere else.
There is always something not good enough for somebody.
Case
ps..i'll catch ya all when the pumpkin season begins. Later

Some people aren't happy unless they're complaining about something. It was a fine article Casey. Don't let a few sour grapes ruin your BP.com experience...trust me on that one.

I agree it is a very interesting arcticle. I see no reason why it can't be posted here. After all its Febuary! and theres not alot of chat about vine burying or foliar feeding going on here right now!!! whats the big deal?
As to the article, I believe in the theory they talked about. What still needs to be determinded is how much fresh water it will take to slow or shut down the system. There was a interesting article in this months Discover Magazine. It was about the Ward Hunt ice shelf that recently split in two and dumped an entire fresh water lake into the ocean near Canada's Nunavut territory.
Interesting stuff to keep a eye on. Dean o....no I am not an militant eviromentalist, just bored right now :-)

always been some real jackasses on this site case. i come across bigger "a" holes on the construction site than these pouty freaks who hide behind a keyboard to make them feel like a man once in a long great while.
but then again there are a lot of good people just willing to lend there time and ears to another. that is what it is all about so keep posting anything you damn please anywhere you want case.
everyone knows who fits into what catagory.

Back on thread If you really want to be scared read the book "The Coming Global Superstorm". Of course most Canadians wouldn't notice until June if any thing was wrong lol.

Hey Case, Great work. That article was the best Dam one on here since winter started. Keep up the good work and Post more interesting things like that here. After all, if the weather changes a great deal, where all in for trouble growing pumpkins. And that's the bottom line because PumpkinBrat said so!!!

It's the off season so I don't see what's wrong with posting interesting stuff on any board! Jeesh post it on the "Squash Board" and maybe Craig Weir will get all worried about the weather & tell us what he's growing this spring! Winter is still raging here lighten up!

sorry if i came off a little strong in my comment, but casey is a good dude who contributes positively to this open forum. being an open forum gives everyone a right to speak his or her mind. i just get tired of seeing people post negative responses to those trying to add something to the table. i should have just shook my head and left it alone. sometimes i am the biggest idiot of them all. casey handled it with class, and i handled it like the ass.

Talk about people with "thin skin"!! I recommended that there might be a more appropriate place to post this rather than "General Discussion". Glen just asked the question if there might be a more appropriate place to post. Isn't there room for another opinion? It's not like Glen is the "Message Board Policeman"!
Now if you really want to be "ticked off"....this fellows theory is so full of holes it looks more like a sieve! He makes far too many assumptions on the interpretation of data. These are the same people that used similar data in the late 60's to conclude that the earth was warming!! :>)

In the absence of a "weather board" I can't see a better place for this.
Case brings a very though provoking article to our attention. It might not be accurate. But it could be. Global weather is a very complex subject with too many variables for one mind to comprehend. Super computers & think tanks are failing to give us positive insight.
Another perspective:
http://yosemite.epa.gov/oar/globalwarming.nsf/content/index.html
One thing is for sure. Human Beings give ourselves way too much credit for our influence on this planet. We have not the power to cause nor effect major planetary weather or temperature paterns in any direction. We aren't that powerful.
Remember: The only constant is change.

There is some very good science going on in this area, and yes it is disturbing. Much of the research is being done by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, which has a good reputation. There has been research done in the past that has shown the very quick development of ice sheets in Europe but until recently there was no method that could explain the findings.
Check out their website if you want to do more reading on this topic.

As a climatologist I feel this is definitely research we should keep an eye on.

This is an interesting topic isn't it?
Give Volcanic activity it's due concern whenever consider global climatic change. The last "big one" was in 1991 & it wasn't all that big. But the Northern Hemisphere saw a temperature decrease for the following 4 years.
I get some pretty cool "news alerts" emailed to me & knew I'd seen this one recently. I found it for those interested.
chlorine monoxide dimer—A chlorine compound with the chemical formula Cl2O2. Its chemical structure is actually ClOOCl, and it is more properly known as dichlorine peroxide. This species plays a critical role in polar ozone destruction. Its formation (from recombination of two chlorine monoxide radicals in a termolecular reaction), followed by its subsequent photolysis to regenerate Cl atoms, is the major ozone depletion mechanism involved in the formation of the antarctic ozone hole.

What's all this mean? Perhaps nothing yet. But it gives us new insight into the subtle ways this planet regulates itself with or without our "help".
