I hope you all are staying warm? I keep on seeing the weather report and it looks grim in North East. I am very lucky to live in a place that, for the most part, stays even. I just can't wait for that pumpkin growing time. Stay warm!

It's been a colder winter than normal here. A good old fashion one they say. The seasonal average snow fall for this area 98.9 inches. As of yesterday the weather man said we have 92.9 inches. With February and March yet to come, they figure will end up with somewhere between 120" to 150" of total snow far. Sometimes we have had up 10"-12" of snow in April too. PumpkinBrat

No massive cold here like the north is having, but yesterday morning in Louisville, Ky (here) it was -5. 1st time in 8 years we went below 0. It is starting planting time, though. I've started some broccoli indoors already! :-)

Here too it has been a cold January. -30f actual ambient on three nights this month. I expect some winter kill on many shrubs and plants as a result of the intense cold. Funny it started off so mild. No snow on Jan.6th and zero ground frost. Snow cover is well over 3ft. deep. We may have had 75 or more inches this month alone. Around 100" for the season. Cold winter brings early spring. Wake up ground hog.

Now if you want some intense cold (a little frigid) you come on out our way.
Two nights of -57 C or -70.6F and average right now is about -36 C with the wind chill feels like -49 C

Ernie thats a dry cold. We have damp cold. I'm from Canada's banana belt Windsor ON. Seventeen years ago I moved from zone 7 to zone 4. Took some getting used to the cold winters and slow spring warmups. Anything below zero f is ffffffcold. LOL. Russ.

We have been covered in snow here for the past 60+ days, I went out and poked around the patch (8 inches of snow) and low and behold the cover crop appears to still be growing!

Here in West Michigan, it's not winter until snow is piled higher than your mailbox! (which it is now...) I'm hoping all this cold will take a bite out of soil pathogens & overwintering bugs!!! Frank

We planted a mix of Winter Rye, and Hairy Vetch. The Winter Rye is way ahead of the Hairy Vetch.

April (Goodgirl) says 12 inches of snow for her...i live in Wi too(about 2 hours SE of April) and we are not supposed to get squat for snow (i bet we are lucky to get 3 inches out of this storm where i live)...but a high of about 20 today is nice. It was -18 a few nights ago(-45 wind chill)...coldest night we've had this year.

Beautiful Southern California, Sunny and warm, 65 deg in the afternoon and 45 at night. I have never seen snow here. But we do get a little frost on the top of the cars three or four times a year. But if you sleep till eight am it will be all gone. Rain comes toward the end of October and ends in March. We have only had four days of rain this season Less than 1 inch total. BOY I sure do miss the SNOW in New York City........

Big change since yesterday. We have a big North west storm coming down from the Artic. Should drop about an inch of rain during the night. Temperatures will make a big drop after the rain stops. Snow will fall in the mountains at about 5000 feet The mountains are about 80 miles inland from the Pacific Ocean. I live about 6 miles from the ocean and 100 miles from the Mexico border. 8:43 pm rain just started to fall
