The stem on my pumpkin on the WELLs 483 split about two inches running lenth wise, What can i do about this? Can I put clear silicon caulk in the slash? I think that what caused it was that i let the tap roots grow at the last two nodes befor the pumpkin......I have since gotten in there and cut them, Freeing up some slack. The pumpkin had put on 20 pounds one day then went to under 10 in a day....I Inspected and found the split....Any info would be greatly apriciated.....Chris

HI Chris: Does the split or slash go into the center of the stem?.If you can see the center of the stem i'd put some clear latex caulking on it to seal off the air.If it does not go to the center of the stem i'd dry dust with some Captions fungicide or dry garden sulfer. If it's leaking water,i wouldent know what to do.Best of luck hope everything goes well.John G Oops almost forgot.I heard of people using Grafting wax to seal and heal stump splits and to seal pumpkin splits so they last till october.
