Is putting on to much nitrogen on at planting harmful? I mean, can you have to much vine growth that affects the number and size of pumpkins?

it makes the plant put its energy into vegatation growth and not the fruit..So everything goes into plant growth...You need some nitro, something with a high potash for your fruit.....

I planted with 9-23-30 and broadcasted some potash besides. What is the typical vine length for a Howden plant?

Too much nitrogen can split your fruit. Watch out!
