Maybe if you don't declare the seeds in the pumpkin they won't look inside for them.

I may have a second cousin on my ma's side being shipped down for eternal rest to the states, any one want to place bets as to 1. how many seeds I can fit in her and 2. if the border screws would look in side her.

Also on another note, if you guys down the road want to build a cement wall that stretches the length of the border my first cousin on my pa's side knows a guy down the road who's brother owns a cement plant. But then again us Canehdians probably wouldn't get in on first contracts unless we agreed to go with the US to bomb the hell out of some country that actually had WMD.

Guess you guys will be changing your national anthem from land of the free...

Cool that gives me a better chance at the good seeds. I think Ernie made a good joke and it should be taken as such.

Shannon, This is not a you vs. us fight. Please hold back the verbage. It is protectionisum that is impacting the free movement of the goods we want to trade. Read my posting
from this morning, re: Special Interest. It puts a new light on this topic. You have to admit some of these polices that spring up out of the US Gov. are becoming nonsense.

Shannon:

I apologize if I offended you, that was not intended and my personal joke was in no way a reflection of the fine Association we have built here.

Further steps will be taken to insure seeds from our raffle that go south make it to the grower.

However living in Western Canada and experiencing first hand the closed border from mad cow, hearing about the deported citizen etc.etc. kind of has a sick taste in my mouth, as even though we are a seperate country, seems we can't do any thing with out big brother south of the border saying so.

Please re-consider the raffle entry we can really use your support.

Deep breath guys. It is frustrating. I contacted the USDA yesterday in writing. I asked for their formal written inturpretation of how this phyto-cert affects the hobbyist/non-commercial/no money changing hands situation of ours.

We may be over reacting in a very big way. There is a chance we can afix an "Exempt from Certification" declaration decal to all packages sent under the "pedigree declared/variety not stated" exemption clause.

If we spend our time looking for solutions instead of pointing fingers, we might work this thing through without issue.

I think we simply got caught in a loop-hole. The new rules were probably well intended but really need to be refind. The idea was to stop undesirible plants from being imported from other areas....things like purple loose-strife. There's really no way you can get foreign seeds mixed up with pumpkin seeds but with grass seeds and things like that, Yes it can happen. It's silly to think that you can stop plants from getting into the US from the countries next door but if the rules have to be the same for all countries. I'm not going to get all worked up about this and No I'm not going to take it personally. We're dealing with a big stupid bureaucracy that seems to do things just to justify their high-paying jobs on the public wallet. It's the same in every country. We can figure out something together and work around this. There's no point in doing a "Chicken Little" imitation. BTW I thought Ernie's little jibe was funny. Geez, lighten up folks. Neither the US or Canada could ask for nicer neighbors. :0)

P.S. to all of you...if the biggest problem in your life is worrying about a pumpkin seed getting across a national border....and there are freakin people across the ocean that don't have clean water and food to eat...and people in america gettin killed and abused and soldiers gettin killed in Iraq or wherever, then I'd say that you have a pretty damn good life. there are ways to work around the postal service dilemmas. perhaps a middle man as drew suggested....send it to someone who can get it there. or niagara falls, hello? many of us are going to be there. i agree with tremor, quit pointing fingers. how about some good ol' constructive critisism or brainstorming to solve the problem instead of all this bitching? and southern...if you're going to correct someones spelling, at least correct it right. there, i'm done venting about this whole canada/US situation. peace out.......flamingo

Brigitte......the word CanadiAn is the English spelling version. You know the people who settled Canada, the French?
Well they spelled it CanadiEn and guess what, many CanadiEns still prefer to use that spelling.

Ok, guys...

I'll fill ya in,

Yes 100% busting your chops... Been sick with the flu all week and now we got a storm coming in and got way to much time on my hands.

Shannon's a good chap and I didn't intend to offend any one but it wouldn't be the first time on here. Life goes on. But him and I have sent e-mails and that matter is closed.

As for the term "Canehdian" that is my own private spelling I came up with as most folks who meet me, my wife and the rest of the family and don't forget my old '79 chevy or my redbone coonhound coming in March, think were kind of hicks. Oh well life is good and we enjoy who we are. Also with the label I tell folks we refer to ourselves as "Canehdians" because every one in the family always say eh? Yep, typical back woods Canehdian Hicks.

But we smart Hicks,

If we build that wall Ernie where will all you Canadians get your cars from? If your countrymen had decided to step in as a neighbour and help in ridding the world of terrorists and brutal dictators there may be a lighter side to your disparaging remarks. Untill then quit slamming my Country, we are the land of the free because of the fine men and women that gave, and are still giving their lives to keep us free.

This is the silliest thread I've ever read. I was just informed that because I was fooling around by calling Southern a Montreal Canadien fan , he has been getting hate mail. In point of fact the real reason Southern spells Canadian Canadien is because he's Cajun. That's right he was born in the swamps of Louisiana and raised by a family of opossum until the age of 6. He was found by a Cajun swamp hermit and raised as his own. Dirt poor but proud he had to used Spanish Moss as diapers and lived on a diet of gator. After he reached the age of 18 he graduated grammar school and entered the army. After years of protecting his country from us "Damn Foreigners" he settled in Tennessee. I hope this clears things up. ;0)

Hey Gad's, we have our own car factories in Canada, so don't worry, we'd be fine.

We didn't step in because we are our own country, and have the right to make up our own minds. The American weapons inspector himself has declared that there are no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, and there probably hasn't been in 10 years. Why did the war happen? I realize that Saddam is a brutal dictator, but there is no link between himself and the Taliban, and he had no WMD.

I recently got back from a trip to Cuba. It's interesting to hear their perspective on the way the US has screwed them over the years. I realize, they're not perfect, but your country is contributing to alot of hardship over there.

I am not anti American, and I think your country is one of the best in the world, but stop slamming my country, and realize that like us, you are not perfect.

I could not resist reading this thread… first of all you’re all Americans to me :-)

A European view: the biggest advantage of US in my mind is a high number of people who have a critical opinion. This means that in a long run good ideas can not be silenced not even by the government propaganda. Propaganda may win over short period of time but the time will always tell the truth: WMD or OIL?

The most important battle in the war against terrorism is to win friends.
Any government that is not honest to its own people can not win this battle.

The car factories in Canada include Ford, Chrysler, GM, and Toyota. What type of car do you recommend docgipe?

And Tremor, I respect you alot, and always respect what you say. But what did Saddam have to do with terrorism? He was a jerk and an idiot, but it's been proven he has nothing to do with the Taliban.

1/27/2004 11:35:14 AM

Smitty, I beg to differ. Saddam did have ties to Al Qaeda. If nothing else, he was instrumental in funneling large quantities of money to Al Qaeda. I think these ties will become more apparent as the information becomes less critical to the security of the project. In the sneaky arab underworld, a large cache of WMD's is not a likely catch. But the smoking gun, while less dramtic, will be indisputable when the Feds do decide to go public.

Patience.

Uh, maybe I'm missing something but the topic here is weighoffs and bringing pumpkins from Canada into the U.S.A.. Craig had a specific question and he needs a good answer. He's made to trip more than once to participate in PNWGPG events and he shares his seeds generously with the club. If someone does have a good answer for him I'm sure he'd like to hear it.
