In todays mail i recived a bubble from Pat Papaz (Thanks Pat:)and beleave me it was the highlight of my day(job hunting Whoas)upon opening the bubble two empty coin envelopes fell out along with pats note of how the season went, along with a customs note of"mail interception notice"port of entry Chicago Illinois/intercepted material 6 pumpkin seeds.reason"propagative material requires a phyto sanitary certificate as a condition of entry into U.S/seeds destroyed 845x790=826.5 and 805x845=600uow/along with their remarks as mentioned above customs mentions material infested or infected/also no authorized entry.Hmm i have to wonder if this is going to be common in the future as its a first for me.Rocky i'd love to hear your input/regulation in violation# 7cfr 319.37any input welcome.John G.P.S I havent been very active on this site this winter due to job and family related issues as some of may or may not have noticed,by oct most of us need a break from the garden for a month or two ive extended mine a bit but will be back up and running soon.Best of luck to all.John

That's odd Jim,

I just sent some seeds to Canada from the U.S. and I asked the Post Master about it. He said he thought if you mailed seeds from the U.S. to Canada that as long as it was under either 8 or 11 ounces, he could not remember that he would have to look it up, that it did not have to have any kind of a Declaration on it about the seeds.

John,
I received some seeds from Pat Papez yesterday (name not withheld). There was no evidence of the bubble pack being inspected and all the seeds were okay..Joe P.

Joe,
the only reason I didn't name the grower was incase he found a way around the pumpkin border patrol. I didn't want to give out the name & possibly get someone in trouble.
That's all, not trying to be secretive or smart...ok ?

Cool Joe, thanks...I figured it was a misunderstanding.
But if the border patrol intercepts my seeds from the fellow sending me a 900 Lyons then I'm going to have to open up a can of whoop-ass on Dudley Do-Right....LOL

I got an 845 coming across the border soon into the USA, would you be nervous about getting it? I have never had one opened and inspected, but will this be my first?

Nervous in PA..

seems to me the majority 99% has no problem either way over the border with customs, must have been the one in a thousand deal with me,customs inspector 10 must have had a bad day and figured he'd pass it on to me:)i've sent 25 or more bubbles to Canada and recived just as many and not one has ever been tampered with, just one of those things i guess!!

I have always had my seeds opened from Canada. But, I've always received them in good condition. No problems. Must have been a bad day or a newbie.

I thought Alun had a good idea of what is going on...

News report....

Attention all pumpkin

The new growing group "Customs Giant Pumpkin Growers Association" will be holding thier initial Internet auction next week. The Customs officials announce their thanks to all growers who have sent seeds across the border, as they have become donations toward this years function..

Customs officials have also declared that since they now have enough seeds, you may feel free to send seeds across the border, as they only collect during the months of November December and early January..

Bid high.. and bid often..

Seriously Ken and John, everyone else affected.. I will do some research on violation 7cfr319.37. Not sure what that is.. but I will do my darndest to find out..

The problem with asking questions like this at your local post office is that you will probably get as many different answers as there are people working there. I have sent 150 identical packages so far this year and sometimes they say $.49 sometimes $.60 and sometimes $.72 depending on which clerk I get.

OK how about this-------for a few bucks you can insure your package. would customs be reluctant to destroy and if they did would you get compensation--- hell this could drive them crazy------how that insurance works we need the Rockstars professional knowledge.
