I am panicing here! My pumpkins are at a bad angle and I am trying to move them very slow. How hard is this to do successfully? Or should I just give up and let it alone? Also what is everyone putting under there pumpkins if anything? I think I may have waited to long to do all this but we have had so much rain it was hard to get to it and things got away from me Thanks

Kim, I have used the blue 1" insulation with no problem. I start with a piece about 2 feet square and poke some holes in it so water doesn't pool under it, I'm not sure if it's necessary but it's what I do. As for the stem angle I'm not sure. I have some crummy ones too but it's early and I have some I just pollinated in the last couple of days that look better. ( I'm just dreaming of that 1000lbplus sitting in my patch. HaHa!) I would be very happy with a 500lb.Good Luck,Amy

Kim The positioning of the fruit is the most important part of growing an Giant pumpkin. There is no hurry in positioning your pumpkin. I read a article that I found on one of the links on the BigPumpkins Home Page that I will be following. 1. Wait until the pumpkin is about the size of a basket ball before you start to position it, 2. Place a piece of 1/4 inch plywood 12 X 12 with the bottom side covered with a piece of plastic under the pumpkin. 3. To position the pumpkin move the plywood instead of the pumpkin a short distance every day until the pumpkin is Perpendictular to the vine. Keep the pumpkin from moving back by putting sand next to it. The pumpkin should not be moved more than a 1/2 inch a day, The best time to move the pumpkin is during the heat of the afternoon, when the stem is the most plyable. I suggest that you look at the links to get more information Good luck Water = John

The 10 Mid Season Tips article by Wayne Hackney on the NEPGA section of the site (tip #6) talks about positioning. Another way to find things is to use the Search box at the top of the page. Try typing in the word "angle" (without the quotes) and viewing the results.
