What about the incredible picture in William Warnock diary? In World Pumpkins Confederation history I found that Mr. Warnock sent a 400 lbs pumpkin to Paris fair in 1900, and Bob Ford broke this world record only in 1976. In 1980 Howar Dill fix the new world record to 459 lbs. The pumpkins in the picture seems to be bigger than 400lbs. could anyone give some other particulars about this very interesting history? Paolo

It's a giant pumpkin postcard I think. I collect these. My wife has gotten me several nice ones. They are called "Exageration Postcards" & were published around 1904-1909. Many fruit & veggies suffered the same fate. Corn, Apples, Fish. Anything a locality might want to boast about.

Now that I've looked through them, I find I have the same image. It is a postcard. There is a small text area in the upper right corner that says "Pumpkins grown in Colo. soil are profitable". The lower right corner says "copyrighted phtograph 1908 by W. H. Martin".
My wife says martin made the best exageration postcards. Most were little more than a model railroad car with a potatoe or some other unoriginal object. Martin's cards were pretty believable.
