The challenge will be took break your personal best and have fun.
IMHO a good size AG for a 1st or 2nd year grower would be the 300-400lb range but......a second year grower from Cali grew a 977Lbr and other novices have been well above 700lbs.

I've got about 150#er so I guess that's just a baby. The stem is cracking big time so I guess I'll cut it off the vine and see if I can keep it til the county fair. I spoke with the county extention agent and he said that the biggest in the past few years has only been about 125#. 3 dollars and a blue ribbon for first place. lol

Just a joke,,,Pappy,,hope you didnt take me serious,,,mine is kinda flat,,,lol,,but it's 72" circumferance,,,I'm just growing for the kids,,,but next year,,,watch out,hehe...Seriously,,,,with it being flat,,,will the circ. weight be accurate???? I cant do ott any more....

8/26/2001 1:19:22 PM

Pappy

North Ga

Jeff, Since yours is flat and the stem on mine is almost split in half maybe we can share a yellow ribbon and a dollar. lol. I don't know anything about the weight by circ. only. It seems to me that you should still be able to get an ott though. How about it experts?

Or better yet we can meet between Perry and Loganville. Bring Pumpkins, shotguns and a case of Bud.

I'll bet these AGs explode nicely.

Circumference estimates with a long low or flat pumpkin are usually way off...bigger estimates than real weights. And third place is usually a white ribbon (been there all too often)........G

Some of you have heard this before but here it is again.
This is my 4th year growing, last year I was fortunate enough to get a 788.6lber to Altoona but this story is about my first pumpkin.
4 years ago I set out to grow a big pumpkin, no computer then, I did find Don Langevins book though which I read and read. I worked hard all summer and was thrilled when I took my 140lb pumpkin to a local fair and won first place, 3 dollars and a blue ribbon. I know that pumpkin will always stick in my mind because it set in motion a great journey, a total love of growing giant pumpkins. I've met more great people and had have had more fun in the last 4 years than ever before.
Good luck and enjoy
Amy
