The following story is strictly personal and has no connection to pumpkins although it is a story of a pumpkin grower. On Halloween night I was beaten for no reason in an elevator by security in the most famous night club in Ljubljana. I’ve got one of the best Slovenian lawyers to start a law suite. Last week I found a picture in the newspaper of one of the guys that had beaten me up. He was found dead under a bridge and police published his picture to identify him. I told the police that I recognize him and that he “fell” of the bridge only 5 days after his employers received a request for 70.000 USD from my lawyer. Today my lawyer canceled the case because in his words he does not want to mess with mafia and end up under the bridge. I called the police and they say that the man under the bridge is NOT who I think he is. They have DNA evidence (for my memory!?). The police covered up a murder and one of the best lawyers in Slovenia is afraid to die. I live in a country which is obviously governed by mafia! And I had always so many good things to say about Slovenia. The only good thing about the situation is that now I have a good excuse to devote my time to pumpkins! I wrote this under affection but it is easier for me to put these facts on BP site which is far away from the mafia. I wander if anyone has similar experience? Jernej
PS: I am still thinking not to give up and start a law suit against the state, because the police failed to secure some basic evidence during the investigation (they simply did nothing)

Stan, Slovenia is in the Middle Europe and it borders with Italy. The mafia does not come from Italy however but from the south like Bosnia and similar.

God speed Jernej. Are you safe where you are? Send multiple email with names, dates, & places. Then scoot if you must.

Be well, my friend. It's easy to say, "stand and fight", but to be reasonable I'd really say, "stay out of night clubs and spend time in the patch". Hoping for better days in your and your country's future...

UJ, Have you ever heard of Sicily? That's the "home" of the Mafia. I'm just glad to be an American!

The mafia thing update: the plan is to make them think I gave up. In the meantime I plan to gather as much information as possible. I will meet with the president of Slovenian journalist society today and he will set the meeting with general director of the police. Also I will meet the former supreme prosecutor of the state. About the new lawyer I am thinking to get a wife of the parliament president. Sounds fascinating but the fact is that Slovenia is small (2 million people) and everybody is somehow connected. This is not that good for democracy but sometimes it is an advantage. Jernej
PS: Stan, Sicily is in fact one of my next holiday destinations. In this respect I am glad to be a European because Mediterranean is next to my doorway.
