Here in south coastal CT we have it pretty easy most winters. As a rule, the ocean does a nice job of taking the edge off cold artic air blasts. But not last night.
-2*F
I've heard parts of Vermont got down to -27*F.
Maybe we'll see fewer soil borne root fungus' next year.
How's everyone else making out?

My heart goes out to all you poor people freezing you rumps off. In contrast, it was a beautiful day here with a high of around 82 degrees with more of the same forcasted for the next week. I felt like it was spring today! Heck, I even broke a sweat today while I was out fishing :-)

I saw a curious phenomenon today known locally as "sea smoke" Because the ocean water temp is at about 38 degrees and the air is at or around 0, mist rises from the warmer ocean water and is carried by the slight breeze. Looks a little like " sea smoke"

Here in the great state of new york it's always cold. We had -18 in the last two nights. They say with the wind chill it was -27 below 0. It's very easy to tell that it's super cold when you open your house door and it's like steam coming out of the house when the warm air hits the outdoors air. Also, as you walk outdoors, the snow under your feet goes crunch, crunch, crunch. If you where deer hunting, the deer would hear you a mile away.

There is nothing wrong with a good cold spell. Something like -20f to -40f and a brisk 20mph wind. These kind of temps help to keep the riff-raff out, that moves here here in the summer and thinks this is a nice place to live. :)

Yesterday -31*f below zero. Last week 55*f on Sat, Jan 3rd. I'm afraid many shrubs and plants will be lost come spring. Very little snow on the ground means the frost will go deeper than normal too. I hope it is a warm spring!

Bugs are suprisingly well equipped to handle the cold. Except White flies.
But when furry critters, domestic or wild, rip a hole in your greenhouse seeking warmth, The 801 Stelts aren't real tolerant. The 2 cuttings nearest the hole are toast. Sometime between 11PM last night & 6AM this morning the horrendous deed was done. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
