Forgive me comrades! I know that this is father's love, but...
Have you seen that round -spherical I should say- beautiful white fruit growing with so clean and small blossom point, in the middle of the Australian heat, without any misting system, in a little plant with a bad start and surrounded with 50 plants infected with watermelon mosaic virus and a lot of weeds under? Most of the plants got burnt and with a lot of problems to get a fruit set, and there is that baby growing so nicely. Go ahead little ball!!!

Thanks Ben for your huge experiment with so many seeds. It is fine for many "fathers" to watch it and for many warm climate growers to take notes as well.

Noooooooo Boily, not mosaic! Will he even be able to set fruit if his plants don't die? Is the test patch done?

Carlos,
Just back from the test patch and the 1036 continues to grow well. Nice big and round, got the 845 type look. Still the biggest there and bigger than my only fruit at home. Very heat resistant. About 20 plants have fruit on them now bowling ball size or bigger. All plants survived the 106F day yesterday and 40 mph winds(lots of broken leaves)Luckily Colin had the sprinklers on for 3 hours during the hottest part of the day. Hope they can keep on growing..... Ben

Would it not be possible for you guys down under to cover the plants with remay and leave the sides open?
I'm not sure but maybe this would keep the sun from killing the plants.
Maybe that tremendous heat would kill them even in the shade I suppose.
At any rate I'm sorry about the tough time you are having with virus' and heat.
It's still early and all of us northerners really appreciate the time you took to plant our seeds!
