i have a 50 foot by 20 foot plot for my pumpkin this year...my question is which way do i train the vine to go in this awkward space? thanks for you input! joey

my suggestion. plant 5 feet apart in the middle back to back. 10 foot side vines and 22.5 ft. mains.

or, if you are really going with one plant only, i'd say your space is ideal---maybe because one of MY spaces is 20 feet wide X about 280' long, so i know about side-to-side limitations! hmmm, i wonder about a 20-foot main, with 25-foot secondaries......noooo, don't do it! lol-----from one end to the other, my friend, and as far as which direction relative to the sun and wind, there was another post on here not long ago that went on for days about THAT! when i plant i also take into account sun position and any shaded areas. but on a hole i like b&t's idea

If you want 2 plants Brig-n-Tom's idea is good.
You can also go with one plant (in the middle of the patch) with 2 main vines trained in the opposite directions with 10' secondaries.
