Do ya ever wonder how they do that. Now that is soil compaction to the Max. Is it clay over sand or some special mixture of amendments. What type of Grass? Bent or Bermuda. how is the surface kept so hard, yet it still grows. The surface tension alone must repell water.

Lawn bowling, Bochi. (sp) Compaction has to be overcome somehow for these guys. Aeration cannot be the only answer. it takes a good week for golf green to overcome aeration in the summer. Lots of root destruction in the process too. Do they use sand only or the porous ceramics as well.

Bermuda south of the transition zone. Creeping Bentgrass up north. Coring, verti-cutting, topdressing, & rolling. It's a lot of work to keep the surface playable. Every soil amendment you can imagine.
